Mercy Robert -My Inexpressible Awe (A poem)

My Inexpressible Awe

I look around and I see the wonders of Your hands.
I count my blessings,
but I can’t count them all.

I wonder and ponder about Your very being.
Your ways? No one can truly fathom.
Your thoughts? They belong to You alone,
unless You care to share a glimpse.

I’ve searched myself,
and I’m certain I don’t deserve Your love.
But somehow, You care.
Somehow, You are mindful of me.

Why, Lord? I asked.
Is there anything I’ve done to deserve such love?
I couldn’t place my hands on anything,
because truly, I’ve done nothing.

Even when I try to express myself in words,
I garble, incomprehensibly.

I see Your wonders in heaven above
and in earth beneath.
By default, my life shouldn’t make sense.
But You chose me.

Out of the seven billion people on earth,
You chose me.

I look at my life,
from the day I knew what existence meant
to this very day.
And it has been You all the way.

Even when I didn’t deserve Your mercy,
You were there.
You’ve been there.
And You never left.

You’ve stood me out from the crowd.
You gifted me talents I can’t explain.
I do nothing by my effort.
Everything flows naturally, effortlessly.

And I’m supposed to have the words
to describe my inexpressible awe?
No way.

You are inexpressible.
No words, phrases, or sentences
can adequately describe
Your lovingkindness and tender mercy.

I’m short of vocabulary.
You are more than all the words
in all the languages put together.

I love You, Lord,
and I’m thankful for Your love toward me.
